WHY DO WE NEED A NEW AQUATIC CENTRE?
Flin Flon, a tight-knit community of over five thousand people, nestled in the heart of northern Manitoba, has long been a beacon of resilience and togetherness. Our community has weathered challenges and embraced change, always striving for a brighter future.
In 2019, we faced a significant setback when the Flin Flon Aqua Centre was forced to close its doors permanently due to structural concerns.
The Aqua Centre was the vibrant heartbeat of not only Flin Flon but also of the neighbouring areas and Indigenous communities, radiating vitality, connection, wellness, and safety through a kaleidoscope of activities and events.
The loss of this vital facility left a void in the heart of our town and community, but it also ignited a powerful determination to rebuild and reimagine a new centre.
Today, we stand at a pivotal moment in our history, with an opportunity to create a lasting impact.
The Aqua Centre is not just a facility, this space will be a testament to community connectedness, health, and wellness for all.
A celebration of shared joy and a promise of a vibrant, inclusive future for every member of our community.
THE SEVEN PILLARS
1. A SPLASH OF COMMUNITY HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IGNITES A WAVE OF WELLNESS
Our community deserves a place where people of all ages can pursue active, healthy lifestyles. Without it, thousands are left without access to essential fitness resources. We need and deserve an Aqua Centre. With your support, we will build a state-of-the-art facility that promotes physical health, well-being, and recreation.
2. THE AQUA CENTRE WILL SAVE LIVES: WATER SAFETY IS CRUCIAL
In a region surrounded by lakes and rivers, water safety is crucial. The Aqua Centre will offer swimming lessons, lifeguard training, and water safety programs.
3. MENTAL WELL BEING IS ESSENTIAL
Our community yearns for a gathering place, a venue where families, friends, and neighbours can come together. The Aqua Centre will be that place, nurturing social bonds and a stronger sense of belonging, providing individuals with emotional support and a network of trust which are essential for mental well-being. It will host community events, swim meets, competitions, and celebrations, all fostering a deep sense of unity and pride.
4. DRAWING A SURGE OF VISITORS AND BOOSTING ECONOMY
The Aqua Centre has a multiplier effect on our community by sparking economic growth, attracting visitors and tourists, and bolstering local businesses, restaurants, and hotels.
5. AN INVESTMENT IN SENIORS' VITALITY
Beyond fitness, the Centre eliminates social isolation often experienced by seniors by encouraging social interaction and lasting friendships. The Aqua Centre’s warm, buoyant waters offer low-impact exercise opportunities that enhance strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health resulting in healthier, and happier, more enriched lives for our senior population. Our seniors miss their beloved Aqua Centre and the it will be a very welcomed return.
6. SWIMMING LESSONS AND POOL ACTIVITIES ARE TREASURED BY OUR CHILDREN
The Aqua Centre will offer swimming lessons of all levels, competitive swimming, competitive synchronized swimming, kayak and canoeing classes, scuba diving certifications and more, all of which are treasured and valued especially by our children. Lessons will not only be offered to the community of Flin Flon but also to surrounding communities in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
7. DESIGNED TO BE ACCESSIBLE
Our centre has been designed with built in stairs and ramps to both leisure and lap pools as well as outdoor ramps allowing for easy access to the facility. Access encourages a feeling of acceptance and involvement and fosters a sense of belonging. The Aqua Centre will also offer rehabilitation services to ensure healing for those who need it most.
