Music

When the Hudbay Mining and Smelting Company founded the mining camp that would become Flin Flon, they preferred to hire miners who were also musicians, artists, and entertainers. Today, Flin Flon remains full of incredibly talented performers who love to perform.

Johnny’s Social Club hosts regular nights out full of music and good company, including established local talent, open mic nights, and out-of-town performers.

The community has also been an enthusiastic member of Manitoba’s Home Routes circuit for more than 10 years, hosting a variety of Canadian artists in an intimate living room setting.

Flin Flon’s music scene culminates every year with Blueberry Jam, our annual three-day August music festival that attracts visitors from across Manitoba and Saskatchewan. It’s a big deal: In 2025, the front gates recorded more than 9000 entries throughout the weekend!

If you love to sing as a group, the Flin Flon Community Choir is always looking for new, enthusiastic participants! The choir has performed in internationally recognised venues like Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Centre.

Theatre

Flin Flon has a thriving theatre community that works with our music and visual arts community to create spectacular productions year after year!

The Ham Sandwich Theatre Group hosts a local production of a play every year, featuring small, often lesser-known plays from Canadian playwrights that keep the experience fresh and unique for the audience and cast members alike!

Every two years, the Flin Flon Arts Council kicks it up a notch, hosting a *huge* production of a well-known musical that combines local actors, choir members, and support roles with a $100,000 production budget that covers a professional director, choreographer, musicians, and high-quality lighting. The biennial production is one of northern Manitoba’s hidden gems!

In the summertime, the Big Island Drive-In Theatre provides a unique way to go watch the summer’s hottest releases. In the winter, the Central Canada Film Group hosts monthly screenings of older films that are culturally significant to current events, were overlooked during their time, or defined cinema for generations to come.
