 Mayor Roger Armstrong

Roger Armstrong

BIOGRAPHY

Hello, City of Flin Flon. My name is Roger Armstrong, originally from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan—where I was raised on a family farm as the youngest of 10 siblings. I chose to make Flin Flon my home in March 1981. I dedicated 40 years of service to HBMS, working in both the Smelter and Mine departments before retiring in 2021. Flin Flon is where I built my life. My wife, Lori, and I married in 1988, raising two daughters who have since blessed us with two granddaughters. As an active member of our community, I am an avid fisherman, golfer, and a dedicated supporter of the Flin Flon Bombers. With 45 years of local roots and a deep understanding of our community's work ethic, I am ready to take on the challenges of local politics.

I'm Joe Buie, and my family has lived in Flin Flon since October 2001. I served 11 years as Economic Development Officer with Greenstone, where I worked on regional projects, secured grants, and helped many small businesses get started and grow. I've served as the President of the Chamber, Rotary, and Kinsmen, and volunteered with Navy Cadets, the Neighborhood Revitalization Corporation, and the Flinty Committee. I currently serve as Chairman of Simonhouse Bible Camp, Chair of the Museum Board, board member of Norman Community Services, member of the Kin Club, and Chaplain for the Flin Flon bombers.

I am extremely pleased to be elected by my fellow Flin Flonners.  I was born and raised in Flin Flon, I met my wife Kelly here and we are fortunate to have raised our three children Alli (19), Hanna (17) and Scott (14) in this terrific community.

I was lucky enough to be hired by the Flin Flon School Division my first year of teaching and have been given diverse work in three of the schools over the past 20 years. I have taught in the classroom and gymnasium, worked as the guidance counsellor of Hapnot Collegiate, and for the past ten years served as a school administrator.

I enjoy volunteering through coaching school and community sports and with the Rotary Club of Flin Flon.  I look forward to continuing to serve my community and ensure that Flin Flon continues to grow and prosper.

I would like to thank the people of Flin Flon for showing their trust in me to be a part of this wonderful hard-working Council team.

I am the Marketing Manager at Northland Ford.  In that position I have not only had the privilege of working with great people but have also been able to participate in many community initiatives such as  Scare Hunger, Share the Warmth, Trout Festival and many more.  My wife and I are also very involved in a volunteer capacity with the Flin Flon Bombers. I have two sons - Connor (who attends University in Brandon) and Cole who works for Hudbay and lives in Flin Flon.

My wife Janice and I moved from Calgary five years ago, but our life in Flin Flon started long before that when my son Connor played for the Bombers and we realized that this was a special place that we would be happy to call home.  My passion for Flin Flon was the reason for running for Council and I feel my fresh eyes can help move the city into the future with prosperity, public safety and pride in mind.

I am proud to call Flin Flon home and look forward to working together to help build a stronger community for everyone.
